Something that stuck out to me was how when AI face recognition was applied to a number of influential and important black women, it identified them as males. At first, I thought well maybe it made a mistake, but then I started to notice a pattern, it identified them as ‘confident’ males. This is what stuck out to me. The AI is assuming that women, especially of color, can not be confident, and that only males can be confident. This, of course, is simply not true, and I wondered why the AI was programmed this way.

If these same algorithms are dictating what kind of search results we see and how the internet is to us, it will impact the way people think. The internet is very influential and it is important that, hopefully, these algorithms have improved and become more inclusive.
